In the past, replacing sewer laterals and/or trunk systems meant trenching through a considerable section of property. No matter how much care the plumbing contractor took to prepare Owners/Tenants, the sight of the disturbance and disruption of business created by the operation was tremendously upsetting to the owner. While the owner may understand the necessity of the new sewer service, he still found it difficult to accept the long period of disruption, and the effects of open trenching.

Sleuth Plumbing Technologies' pipe splitting process eliminates the majority of those concerns. Now the plumbing contractor is able to promise minimal disruption and destruction. PROCESS & EQUIPMENT

An accurate and complete video inspection is preformed in order to determine the location and depth of all "wye" connections, tee’s and access holes. The area between the entry and exit holes is completely undisturbed except for any laterals that would need to be reinstated for a complete system. A Steel cable is pushed through the existing host pipe and is attached to the splitting head. At the other end of the cable is the unique pulling device which makes the replacement of the new line possible without trenching the entire floor.

As the splitting head is drawn through the existing pipe it fractures or cuts the old line. This allows the splitting head to bring in a new sewer line the same size or larger.

MATERIAL

Our tools are designed to be used with High-Density Polyethylene Pipe (HDPE). This material is used worldwide for pressure, water, sewer, and natural gas utilities. HDPE has been proven in these applications and continues to gain acceptance due to its many favorable qualities.

This SBCCI - Southern Building Code Congress International, IAPMO (International Association for Plumbing and Mechanical officials), and UPC (Universal Plumbing Code) approved product has triple the strength of Cast Iron and is joined together with heat by a process called butt fusion, so that one continuous piece can be assembled for the splitting process.

After the trunk line is in place, we make the necessary tie-ins with the appropriate fittings, clean outs, and transition couplings.
